Airport

  • The nearest and most convenient airport is John Wayne Airport (SNA), about 24 miles (38 km) from Laguna Cliffs Marriott. Drive time is 25–30 minutes; UberX costs approximately $55.
  • An alternative is Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), 60–65 miles away. Drive time is ~1 hour 3–11 minutes – traffic dependent, with UberX costing around $131.

Overview of Dana Point, California

Shopping 

Ranges from waterfront boutiques to upscale shopping centers. The Dana Point Harbor hosts over 25 boutique shops across Dana Wharf, Mariner’s Village, and Mariner’s Alley—featuring coastal apparel, gifts, art, and surf gear. Just inland, Monarch Bay Plaza, Lantern Bay Village, and Monarch Beach Promenade offer over 50 additional shops and services, including fashion retailers, specialty stores, salons, and convenience markets.

Restaurants 

The city is home to nearly 70 restaurants, offering everything from fine dining to casual cafes. Visitors can enjoy fresh seafood, Italian, French, Mexican, California coastal cuisine, and craft pizza. Notable spots include Coastal Kitchen, Luciana’s Ristorante, Chart House, Maison Café & Market, Truly Pizza, and harbor favorites like Wind & Sea and Harbor Grill.

Sightseeing 

It is a major draw in Dana Point. Known as the “Dolphin and Whale Watching Capital of the World®,” the harbor offers year-round marine tours. Other highlights include Doheny State Beach, Salt Creek Beach Park, the Ocean Institute, and Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park—all offering scenic beauty, marine education, and outdoor recreation like hiking, surfing, and kayaking.

Winery 

While Dana Point doesn’t have its own vineyards, it features local tasting rooms such as Frisby Cellars in the harbor. Just a short drive away, you’ll find Rancho Capistrano Winery (with over 40 wines) and Laguna Canyon Winery, offering curated tastings and California varietals. Together, these provide a relaxed, coastal wine experience without leaving the region.
